Breastfeeding
Q. Why is it important for Mothers to be in a comfortable position while breastfeeding?
A. As mothers will spend several hours every day breastfeeding their baby, a comfortable and relaxed position is important so that they can hold their baby to the breast without straining their muscles.
Once in a comfortable position, mothers are encouraged to bring their baby up to breast level, rather than leaning over their baby, as leaning over to breastfeed can cause back and neck strain. By placing their baby in the Momby Baby Support it is very easy to bring the baby towards the breast, with a simple tilt motion. This also ensures that the baby’s face is directly in front of the breast with its mouth at nipple height.
Q. Do all breastfeeding mothers require aids/cushions pillows?
A. No, not all breastfeeding mothers require pillows/cushions to assist with breastfeeding, but as each mother has different physical characteristics – arms of different length and different size breasts, mothers may need to experiment to find a comfortable feeding position for themselves.
Q. What is the correct breastfeeding position for a baby?
A. A baby’s head should be straight, in line with their body, not arched back or turned sideways. Due to it’s ergonomic design, the Momby Baby Support encourages this position ensuring that the baby’s ear, shoulder and hip are in a straight line and their head is tilted slightly back so that they are not pulling at the breast and can swallow easily.
Q. How does the Momby Baby Support assist mothers to latch their baby on to their breast correctly?
A. When initiating breastfeeding a lot of time is taken up with correct positioning of the baby at the breast. Mothers who have had long labours, instrumental deliveries and c/sections can present with difficulties getting breastfeeding established. The Momby Baby Support is invaluable in assisting with the establishment of breastfeeding. It provides a safe and secure place for the baby, with head, neck and back supported. When mothers are secure in the knowledge that their baby is supported they can concentrate on getting their baby to latch on. Using one hand to support the Momby Baby Support and baby, the mother can now use their free hand to ensure their baby latches on correctly. The Momby Baby Support can assist with the establishment of breastfeeding therefore encouraging mothers to continue breastfeeding for longer.
